DEFINITIVE KYLIE. Behind The Mask.
This album defies the expectations of a dance pop diva whose pedigree began as a teenage soap star. IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS is a collection of smart songs that reveal Kylie as an underrated songwriter whose knack for dark lyrical imagery avoids cliches and obvious rhymes in search of deeper truths--without the self-affected pretension of writers like Billy Corgan or Alanis Morissette. Kylies dark meditations on life are framed in a musical kaleidoscope that seamlessly bridges trance- and rave-oriented dance with brooding, crunchy UK indie-rock--a far cry from the accessible disco pop she is most known for. Unlike any album she had made before, IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS created quite a stir amongst her fans upon its’ 1997 release. Subsequent albums that have reverted to her classic dance sound have been colored by a knowing wink and irony as a result of this, her touchstone and true classic album. Go beyond your preconceived notions and see why Q Magazine calls this album an "undiscovered gem”. Discover IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS--youll never see Kylie Minogue quite the same way ever again.

good...just good.
I kept on hearing how overlooked and great this album was from Kylie. Since im OK with her music and know that sometimes when pop stars decide to get a little experimental they end up doing some good stuff and it all gets overlooked cuz its a bit different. Well, with the exception of someone like madonna of course! I decided to give this album a chance and what i found was that its OK. It seemed that Kylie was heading in the right direction but as they say close but no cigar! Some songs like some kind of bliss, jump, through the years, and even breathe were pretty good in my opinion. Other songs like Drunk was just a mess and everything else was just OK. My advice....if youre really the type of person that listens to experimental music then this may not be experimental enough for you and if youre into POP music then this may be too weird and dull for you. BUT if you into both worlds of the mainstream and underground then this may actually be perfect for you! It was OK for me.

Impossible, imperfect, but still a great album
Kylie minogue, the star forever known as the Locomotion girl who just never seemed to have success in the US, but weas the biggest thing overseas. Well one of hte reasons Kylie was huge was great music, and Impossible Princess is an example of probably her best music. The album is definetly a creative high, and is Kylies sole album completely written by her lyrically. The album starts off with the high energy TOo Far, which would initially give u the idea she hasnt changed much except getting better, but Too far simply shows you the door to kylies soul, which is this albums embodyment. Cowboy style is a strong and catchy song, with good music instrumentation. Personally i think this song was written to kylies ex lover Michael HUtchence who passed away prior to the release of this album, as was the song Take me with you,, knot featured on this album. Some kind of bliss is one of the albums sole bright tracks, but lets you look into maybe what type of joy was escaping her at this time.. Did it again takes stabs at the controlling industry and the very controling relationship she had iwth PWL in her early days as a hit maker. Breathe is yet another one of these in a succession, and is pretty much her coping with the harsh media that scorned her most of the way. Say hey plays like a drunken fairy tale, while drunk is a more literal approach to the drunk fantasy. These more industrial tracks stray from the more rock-edge that the albums former tracks had into a more Too Far arena. I dont need anyone still mixes it up, as a rock song. Jump is almost Did it agian, just more depressed and looking at the tormenters point of view rather than Kylie pointing the finger at herself. Limbo is probably the birth child of Too Far and Drunk, with its crunching industrial sounds, again stabbing at every direction. Through the years is one of ythe albums less impressive tracks, another rock number but can be passed up, except for the lyrics. Its musically is generally boring. And we end with probably one of the best tracks Kylie, or most artists could ever perform, Dreams. In every aspect, this tracks ozzes brilliance in every pore, and for thies song alone, the album coul dbe sold. Ultimately, the tracks are fantastic on Impossible princess and really none of them deserve to be skipped, but the album takes time to get into, and some of the hidden meanings can be mistaken if you dont know Kylies history or some aspects of her personal life. This album may be good in that respect, but it still isnt perfect either. Serious music fans who are probably targetted with this album, will gripe about the lack of indifference and the schizophrenia of the album. The tracklisting is very off teh wall, and goes from rock to industrial to Im dying ambiance. Serious music lovers will also stick their noses up at the fact that if you play songs in a certain orderJump-Say Hey-Too Far-Dreams-Drunk-Limbo, the songs melt ridiculously into each other. Theyre music in that order will sound like the same song is playing, just extended, and the lyrics offer little variation. The enter album, while the lyrics are very well written, all of them sound veyr similar. This is good or bad, because in my opinion I found myself hearing things over again, and even if knot the same, Kylie would present herself in the same mannerisms as if other songs. Its something that can affect others while knot be a problem to some. Ultimately though, music fans can respect this album for its retrospect and the fact that in a combination of good songs, and instrospect, Kylie weaves together a very good album. Ultimately, this is nothing PWL or Fever. This album flopped maybe because fans didnt want to see Kylie become too good of a musician to leave all of her past music behind, but ultimately, this album is a keeper. While room for growth, and little minor errors, ultimately this album stands beside many singer songwriter lps and leaves behind most pop records in the dust. Whether or knot this couldve been the start of something or knot, its still unclear since Kylie choose to take it back to basics with the god-awful Light Years, but this album stands as a testiment to crtics that she was worth more than synthesizer beats, and to the cynical fans who trapped her, at least they know she could always have done better. Easily a classic album, and a must have.

Kylie Sounds Different .... But GOOD!
In this perticular album we see a side of Kylie that is more dark and mysterious. The sounds from Impossible Princess are interesting but you may want to consider getting her other material first. Not that Impossible Princess is bad, but it is just that her sound is a lot different than on her other albums. I found the best tracks on the album to be "Too Far", "Some Kind Of Bliss", and "Breath". This album is a great example of good pop and I would difinitly recommend it!

Impossible Not to Like!
After signing with the Deconstruction label in 1994, Kylie Mingoue embarked on a creative venture for her second set. Recorded between 1995 and 1997, IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS was her most experimental if not, ambitious album, to date! Just listen to the intensity within "Too Far" and "Limbo", the rock flair of "Some Kind of Bliss", and the 60s inspired "I Dont Need Anyone". IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS is an eclectic piece of work. ONE of the Best albums to emerge within the past ten years!

Oh Dear! What was That!
Its one for the archive I suppose, but so far, I havent found one song on this that I actually like. They are all so not-kylie, and I WILL be listening again in the hope that a few may grow on me, but so far - Yuk! Its not surprising that it flopped. Sorry Kylie. Tim.
